by Maya HurrunaCompanies and non-profit organisations regularly host events to promote their ideas, important causes, or projects that are central to them and their target audience. Whatever the purpose for hosting an event, it is essential to create a public relations strategy early in the planning stages. Here are three top tips for successfully PR-ing an event: BEFORE Start in advance - it is never too early to start raising awareness of your event. What are you trying to achieve? Do you want to drive delegate attendance or are you trying to encourage exhibitor registration? Once you know what you are setting out to do, you can tailor your message to your target market. DURING Running a press office onsite can be extremely stressful! However, there are ways to ensure that the event runs smoothly. My number one tip is to organise all interviews prior to the event, so that you don’t need to worry about managing journalist requests on the day. It also frees you up to deal with any last minute issues that might arise. AFTER Follow up with all of the media that were in attendance. Share images, quotes or speakers presentations with them. This is also the perfect opportunity to invite them to the next event.
